Made in 1884, this is a back-action, top-lever, No. 2 (later called "Dominion") hammerless side lock rifle with unusual bolted locks, articulated trigger, tang safety, and crisp slim 26” steel barrels 1:28" twist w perfect bores. Original wood, drops 2.5” - 1 5/8”, LOP 14 5/8” thru original lockable steel trapdoor buttplate. Was returned to H&H in 1935. Perkes patent gas check. Perfect bores, bore .399 per maker's log, groove .407 by slugging from breech, regulated for paper patch "long Eley" bullet over 3 drams black. Brass is made from 348 (2 incl.) or 450-400NE, rims thinned, shortened and formed in regular sizing die (6 incl.). New CH4D dies incl. Original wood has been refinished/recheckered and comb modified to accept a tang sight. Action has been rejointed (repinned), firing pins bushed, and a dovetail in the rib (possibly for an ancillary sight) has been blanked. Tight and light at 7 1/4#.
